DESIGNING SINCE
Valen Casilla Tufono is an interior designer, educator, and creative strategist with a career rooted in both performance and precision. His journey began in 2007 with a focus on visual merchandising—developing spatial narratives, managing teams, and mastering materials across high-volume retail environments. This early experience laid the foundation for his signature approach: functional, refined spaces with a strong sense of story.

From 2010 to 2016, Valen toured internationally as a professional dancer with a world-renowned production company. Behind the scenes, he immersed himself in production and set design, gaining firsthand experience in spatial choreography, lighting, and staging. These formative years shaped his deep understanding of how space impacts movement, emotion, and usability.

By the time he earned his Bachelor of Science in Interior Design with honors, Valen had already established himself in residential interiors—designing kitchens, bathrooms, and custom millwork solutions. In 2021, after relocating to Sacramento with his partner and their dog Appa (shortly after they were gifted with Azula, a German Shepsky like Appa), he became the showroom manager for a major European kitchen brand, leading high-end remodels and guiding clients through the technical and aesthetic decisions that define modern living.

Valen now leads his own practice, Valen Interior Design, where he specializes in kitchen and bath design, compact living solutions, and thoughtfully curated interiors. He combines global influence with local insight, balancing function with form to deliver tailored, contemporary results.

Outside of client work, Valen serves as an adjunct faculty member in interior design. At a young age he thought of becoming an English teacher, funny enough he unexpectedly found his way back to the classroom during a transitional career moment—and hasn’t looked back since. “Maybe you were always meant to teach,” a mentor once said. “Just a different subject.”

Valen is known for his approachable leadership style, deep product knowledge, and ability to translate abstract ideas into real-world solutions. He brings humor, focus, and professionalism to every project—whether in the studio, the showroom, or the classroom.
